Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Apr. 17, 2010) - The Nova Southeastern University  baseball team swept Saint Leo by the scores of 9-2 and 14-4 in a  Sunshine State Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the NSU  Baseball Complex.  The two wins helped the Sharks add onto a new program  record 18 game home wining streak and improves the Sharks record to  29-17 on the season and 11-7 in SSC play.  Saint Leo falls to 17-30  overall and 4-14 in SSC play.
 "Anytime you can sweep a conference series it is huge," commented NSU  senior catcher Matt Fisher.  "Coming off a series where we lost two of  three games at Barry, we wanted to show everyone that we belong in the  Regional Tournament this year."    
  "This series put us back on track," Said senior third baseman Rhys  Roberts.  "Hopefully we can carry the momentum over into the remainder  of our season and find a way to post-season play."    
 After scoring single runs in the second and third innings of game one,  the Sharks broke the game open with a four run sixth inning.  NSU opened  the inning with a double by senior third baseman Rhys Roberts  (Parkland, Fla.), a triple by senior second baseman Eric McCans  (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and a two-run homer by junior designated hitter  Haven FitzSimmonds (Loxahatchee, Fla.).    
 Roberts, the defending SSC Player of the Week, finished the game 3-5  with two runs scored and a RBI.  McCans was 3-4 with two runs scored and  two RBI.  Senior catcher Matt Fisher, who hit in the game winning runs  on Friday night, was 3-4 with a run scored.    
 Junior starting pitcher Isaac Hicks (Ft. Myers, Fla.) earned the win to  improve to 6-0 on the season.  He allowed one earned run on four hits in  five and two-thirds innings pitched.  Junior Torey Ekey (Merritt  Island, Fla.) and junior James Martinez (Hollywood, Fla.) finished the  game for NSU.    
 Leading 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning the Sharks  offense exploded for nine runs on eight hits to take a 14-4 lead.   Junior shortstop Luis Penate (Miami, Fla.) hit a three run homer and  Roberts hit a two run homer in the inning for NSU.    
 Senior outfielder Brayan Valencia (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was 4-4 at the  plate with a run scored and two RBI.  Roberts continued his torrid  hitting by going 3-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.  Penate  concluded the game 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.    
 Junior starter Ryan Whelan (Boca Raton, Fla.) picked up the win,  allowing four runs on five hits in three and two-thirds innings pitched.   Ekey and junior Sean Tighe (Hobe Sound, Fla.) held the Lions scoreless  for two innings before closer Sean Albury (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas) earned  his 10th save of the season by pitching the final inning and one-third.     
 The Sharks will host Florida Tech in a non-conference game at 6 pm on  Wednesday, April 21st at the NSU Baseball Complex.
